Croatian-American artist and professor of art Zdenko Krtić maintains studios in Zagreb, Croatia and in Auburn, Alabama, where he resides. In his work the artist explores the intersections of memory, natural history, built environments, weathering and other natural phenomena. His work (consisting mainly of drawings, paintings and scanner photographs) has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the country and abroad, and is found in many public and private collections.
The work has been recognized through various exhibition awards and university grants. Krtić has also received a competitive Individual Artist Fellowship awarded by Alabama State Council on the Arts. On two occasions he was commissioned by CNN.com to create work that became a part of the network’s theme-based special editorial features (Ripple- after 9/11 and Power- America’s choice). The artist has completed multiple residencies as an invited visiting artist at the prestigious American Art Academy of Art in Rome, Italy. He has been teaching studio art (painting and drawing) at Auburn University for over twenty-five years.
